Jonathan Mandell

Jonathan Mandell has been creating fine art mosaics for the last

fifteen years.  After receiving an MFA from the Graduate School of FIne Arts

at the University of Pennsylvania, he opened his business, Jonathan Mandell

Designs Inc.  Initially the focus was on Judaic themed work. From this

Jonathan expanded his focus to sports themes, portraits, landscapes and a

range of other fine art images.  Jonathan has been pursuing mosaic from a

range of approaches, creating sculptural work as well as bas relief glass

mosaics.

JonathanÕs mosaics can be seen throughout the country. In his home

town of Philadelphia, his mosaics are on permanent display at the Citizens

Bank Park, The University of Pennsylvania at Steinhardt Hall, The Liberty

Museum, Delaware Valley College, The Perelman Jewish Day School, Temple

Beth Hillel, Temple Adath Israel, the Jewish Federation Building, the United

Way building, The National Museum of American Jewish History,  Gratz

College, Overbrook High School, the Madlyn and Leonard Abramson Center for

Jewish Living, among other sites.

JonathanÕs work has been exhibited at Yeshiva University Museum

and is on permanent display in New York at the McGraw Hill Company.  Mosaic

installations are in public sites throughout the country, including New York,

Minneapolis, Boston, and Las Vegas.  Jonathan has been featured in the

Bel Aire Hotel Magazine, Glass Art Magazine, The Penn Gazette, and

Billiard Digest, among other publications.

MandellÕs talent lies in his translation of fine art concerns such as

perspective and color composition into the craft of mosaic.  His use of

materials (glass, ceramic tile, semiprecious stones, minerals, mirror,

marbles, petrified wood), color, composition and the language of the surface

topography all add to the richness of the mosaic.
