Nan began her formal artistic training at St. Bonaventure University under the guidance of landscape artist Cole Young.  He tapped into her na•ve talent, allowing her to explore and render without restriction.  After her undergraduate degree, Nan continued her studies by learning about the other side of the scale in the technical Masters Program at The New York Academy of Art in Tribeca, Manhattan.  There she learned the ways of the old Masters and other techniques of rendering (in particular the human figure) from such artists as Eric Fischl, Brenda Zlamany, Wade Schuman, Harvey Citron, Steven Assael, Peter Cox, Martha Mayer Erlebacher, and Jon DeMartin.

Nan has always been able to see a portrait in any object in life.  ŅEverything and everyone has a story and that story can be seen and felt in different ways depending on who reads the fine print and has the connection to look deeperÓ, she explained.

Nan's natural responsiveness to paint allows her to express this universal portraiture and explore achieving a realistic effect by using somewhat unconventional color.  The subject matter is solitary and the personality of her focus shines through regardless if it is nature- organic, inanimate, etcÉ  Although classically trained in her later education, Nan tries to remain true to the way she genuinely reacts to a subject.  She hopes her work requires the viewer to tap into an intrinsic suspension of disbelief in order for their eyes to get lost and play within the subject matter and brushstrokes she presents.

Nan currently resides in Philadelphia, PA .
